Sustrans Scotland is a national charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle, and creating and promoting healthier places. They will be presenting on transport and poverty as part of Challenge Poverty Week, at the International Healthy Streets Summit 2019, in Glasgow City Chambers.
Investing in cycling to tackle transport poverty and promote equity: This presentation will examine how transport relates to poverty, including several of the causes and impacts, especially regarding road safety. In many places, access to shops, employment or participating fully in society demands car ownership. This is regardless of people’s capacity to afford it. Sustrans’ research in Scotland indicates that investment in cycling is a more effective way to promote equity and social inclusion through transport.
