Langholm Initiative

The Knit-a-thon will bring together all corners of the community to creative blankets and throws to be distributed to disadvantaged people. Participants will create granny squares, knitted together by our fabulous textile heroes in Langholm! Talks from Home Energy Scotland, Citizens Advice Service and more will spread awareness of what we all do locally to challenge poverty. #AyeWeCan

Challenge Poverty in Priority Areas Video: Housing

The Church of Scotland

The Church of Scotland’s priority areas team has produced Challenge Poverty Week videos highlighting church projects which tackle the Scottish Government’s seven main indicators of deprivation.  These videos will be posted online during Challenge Poverty Week for sharing across social media channels.

The video created for the Sunday of Challenge Poverty Week will focus on East Ayrshire Churches Homelessness Action, an ecumenical charity, formed in 2005 whose aim is to put faith into action for the benefit of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of their community.

Challenging Poverty in East Kilbride

As part of Challenge Poverty Week, Challenging Poverty in East Kilbride will be hosting a stall at East Kilbride Bus Station.  The stall will provide information on services to help address poverty and will also be a drop off drop off point for clothing and food bank donations.

Clydebank High Family Fun Day – Challenging Poverty

Clydebank High School

Clydebank High School are hosting a Family Fun Day to mark Challenge Poverty Week.  The family fun day will include free fun activities for pupils, combined with stalls from organisations with practical advice and help for families on a range of issues.

The fun activities will include face painting, temporary tattoos (Normal / Glitter), beat the goalie, five-a-side football, games (e.g. Human Hungry Hippo plus ‘Pupil & Family Support’ organising games made from recyclable items from home), obstacle courses, bouncy castle/sumo costumes game, yoga sessions, mindfulness sessions, cooking demonstrations and a book stall (each child will be given a free book home).
